FairShare is an expense-splitting app. This policy explains exactly what it stores, why it needs each piece, who else can see it, and how to get rid of all of it.
The short version. FairShare stores the account details you give it and the expenses you record. It has no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party SDKs collecting anything in the background. Your data is never sold or shared for marketing. You can delete your account, and everything personal in it, from inside the app.
FairShare is an independent app published by Mitesh Shah. For any privacy question, correction, or data request, write to tundra.crux1518@eagereverest.com.
Everything below is either given to us by you, or generated because you used a feature. FairShare does not buy data about you, and does not collect anything you haven't entered.
| Data | Why it exists |
|---|---|
| Email address and name | To identify your account, let friends add you to a group, and send account emails (verification and password reset). Your name is visible to people you share a group or expense with. |
| Password | Stored only as an Argon2id hash. The plain password is never written down and cannot be recovered by us — a forgotten password can only be reset, not retrieved. |
| Phone number, avatar, default currency | Optional profile details. Provide them or don't; the app works either way. |
| Expenses — description, amount, currency, category, date, notes, who paid, and how it was split | This is the product. Anyone you share the expense or its group with can see it. |
| Groups — name, type, and who is a member | To organise expenses and compute balances between members. |
| Comments and edit history | So participants can discuss an expense and see who changed what. Edit history is deliberately immutable — it's what makes shared bookkeeping trustworthy. |
| Receipt images | Only if you attach one. Stored in Cloudflare R2 and visible to people who can see the expense. |
| Settlements — amount, status, and any PayPal order/transaction ID | To record that a debt was paid and to stop the same PayPal payment being reused to confirm a different debt. |
| Push notification token | Only if you allow notifications. It identifies your device to Expo's push service, not you personally. |
| Session tokens | To keep you signed in without re-entering your password. Revoked when you sign out, change your password, or delete your account. |
| Server logs | Cloudflare records request metadata (IP address, timestamp, path) for security and debugging. Retained briefly and not used to build any profile of you. |
Only with other people you deliberately share it with, and with the service providers that run the app. It is never sold, rented, or handed to advertisers.
By design, members of a group can see that group's expenses, who paid, how things were split, comments, receipts, and each other's names and email addresses. Adding someone to a group makes that information visible to them. Balances are visible to the people they concern.
We may also disclose data where the law genuinely requires it, or to investigate abuse or a security incident.
You can delete your account at any time, without asking us:
Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your email address, name, phone number, avatar, password, notifications, push tokens, comments, and group memberships. Your sessions are revoked and you cannot sign in again. Your email address is freed, so you can sign up again later if you want to.
One thing deletion cannot remove. Expenses, splits and settlements are shared records. An expense you paid is one that other people still owe against, so erasing it would corrupt their balances and history. Those records therefore remain, with your name replaced by "Deleted account" — no email address, no phone, nothing identifying you. If you want a shared expense gone entirely, delete the expense itself before deleting your account.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or the CCPA in California) you may have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your data, and to object to how it is processed. FairShare tries to make these unnecessary by building them in: you can view and edit your data in the app, and delete it yourself. For anything else — including a copy of your data in machine-readable form — email tundra.crux1518@eagereverest.com and we will respond within 30 days.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your data we will tell you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
FairShare is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in regions where that is the threshold), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
FairShare runs on Cloudflare's global network, so your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Our providers use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for these transfers.
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change and we'll notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
